What is the NPK of Seasol?Seasol contains only very minor quantities of Nitrogen, Phosphorous and Potassium (N 0.10% : P 0.05% : K 2%). Seasol stimulates growth because it contains naturally occurring growth stimulants that have profound effects on plant metabolism. The growth stimulants in Seasol produce strong healthy growth of leaves, stems and root systems, and result in enhanced flowering and fruiting. They also strengthen plant cell walls, thereby increasing resistance to stresses such as drought, heat and frost, as well as insect attack and disease. Seasol also contains many trace elements which are essential for plant health.
What is the dilution rate of the 2 Litre Spray Pack, if I want to use it in a 9 litre watering can?Weak solution (e.g. for seedlings, new plantings, etc): 75-125 ml per 9 litres of water Medium solution (e.g. for established garden, etc): 125-200 ml per 9 litres of water Strong solution (e.g. for large and/or stressed trees): 200-250 ml per 9 litres of water
How often can I apply Seasol?A one-off Seasol treatment will provide significant benefits, however regular applications (e.g. fortnightly or monthly) produce best results. Unlike fertilizers, Seasol can be applied all year round, even in winter and at the height of summer.
Is Seasol safe to use on natives?Yes, because Seasol is virtually phosphorous-free.
How much Seasol do I need to refill the 2 Litre Spray Pack?Pour 500 ml of Seasol Concentrate into the 2 Litre bottle and fill with water. This dilution rate is appropriate for foliar applications.
How long does it take to empty the 2 Litre Spray Pack?Depending on the water pressure, the contents should disperse within 10 minutes.
How much PowerFeed do I mix with Seasol in a 9 litre watering can, and in the 2 Litre Spray Pack?In a watering can: Weak solution (e.g. for seedlings, new plantings, etc): 20-45 ml per 9 litres of water. Medium solution (e.g. for established garden, etc): 45-90 ml per 9 litres of water. In a 2 Litre Spray Pack: 250 ml PowerFeed (add to 500 ml Seasol and 1.25 litres of water).
Can I store the mixture of PowerFeed and Seasol? No, when combining Seasol and PowerFeed, you should use the mixture within 24 hours.
Can I apply Seasol to the foliage as well as the soil?Yes, Seasol is taken up very effectively through foliage as well as through the soil. For foliar applications, apply at the rate of 4 ml of Seasol Concentrate per litre of water.
If I use 20 ml per 9 L watering can, how much area should this cover?2-4 square metres, depending on planting mass and density. Generally, the volume of Seasol mixture applied should be as per normal watering, and the amount of water applied will be dependent on existing soil moisture.
Is Seasol safe on acid lovers such as Camellias and Rhododendrons?Yes, because Seasol will not significantly affect soil pH, and will provide the same benefits on these plants as for all plants.
Is Seasol safe for pets? What do I do if my dog licks Seasol?Seasol is safe for pets because it is organic and does not contain any chemical additives. If your dog licks a large amount of Seasol, it would be advisable to supply him/her with plenty of fresh water to dilute the contents in the stomach. Due to its alkalinity, gastric irritation may result if significant quantities of the concentrate are ingested. In this case please contact your vet.
Can I use Seasol on my vegetable garden?Seasol is safe and very effective on all food crops. Seasol increases yields, promotes overall health and even improves flavour! Apply at the rate of 20 - 50 ml Seasol per 9 litres of water every 10 to 14 days. Heavy feeders such as tomatoes can be treated weekly, at higher rates of 100 ml per 9 litres of water.
Can I mix Seasol with fungicides and insecticides?Seasol is safe to use with most fungicides, but compatibility should first be checked by mixing pre-diluted solutions of Seasol and the fungicide together. (For further information see FAQ´s Seasol Commercial.)
Can I mix Seasol with soluble fertilizers?Yes, Seasol can be mixed with any soluble fertiliser.
Can I put Seasol on dry ground?Seasol will not be activated unless there is sufficient soil moisture. It is best to apply to moist soil and water in lightly.
Does Seasol contain a lot of salt?Although the only ingredient in Seasol is Bull Kelp which comes from the sea, the sodium and chloride levels are very low because the kelps do not actually absorb the salt.
What is the best time of the day to apply Seasol?First thing in the morning or late in the evening. Do not apply Seasol during the heat of the day (even water could burn the foliage if applied in the heat of the midday sun). If fungal problems are an issue, it is best to apply Seasol in the morning to avoid moisture residue on the foliage overnight.
How often and what rate of Seasol should I apply to a sick plant or tree?We recommend initially two applications, one week apart. Apply to the soil, at least at double the normal rate. Then fortnightly applications, gradually scaling back to the normal rate.
What is the difference between Seasol and PowerFeed?Seasol is made from pure Bull Kelp. It is not, by definition, a fertiliser (as it contains only marginal nitrogen and phosphorus levels), however it is a dynamic stimulant which improves the root system and increases the reproductive capacity, thereby increasing the number of flowers per plant as well as the flowering season. PowerFeed is a fertiliser. It has a fish base which is fortified with nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. The ratio of which is 12:1.4:7 respectively. PowerFeed also contains dynamic soil improvers in the form of humic acids. These compounds work at very low rates and are literally like adding liquid composts to the soil. As well as being a quality fertiliser, PowerFeed is also a clay breaker. It stimulates beneficial soil microbial activity and markedly reduces leaching in sandy soils. |
